Hello! My name is Cassie Sturgeon. I am the Family and Consumer Science teacher at Austin High School.

My goal this year is to show my students that what they learn in my classes will be things that they can use today and in the future. Nutrition education is more important than ever. The choices that we make everyday with regard to our diets will affect how we feel and act. Good nutrition and portion control will enable students to perform better in school.

In Child Development it is important to learn about how we all grow and develop physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially. Learning about the stages od development will teach students what to expect at each age. It will help students who choose to work in areas of child care like babysitting, being a mothers helper, or at child care facility.

Orientation to Life and Careers shows freshmen the options that are available to them for jobs and careers. It will help them prepare by choosing classes that match their career choices. They will also learn how to research and write an effective report with the use of current information. In addition students will learn what to expect as an employee.

It is my belief that every student has great potential. I hope that you, as their parents, will ask about their activities in my class. Talk to them about your experiences and be a part of their learning experience. Encourage them to practice what they learn in the classroom at home and in their community.
